Expected hours each week/month: 4-8 hours/week, but hours and shifts will vary seasonally based on recruitment event schedules, visitor demand/operational needs, and employee class schedule.

Hourly Compensation: $16.76, or $17.60 for shifts requiring fluency in another language. Rates are subject to change.

Position Details

Program Information: Student Orientation Programs introduce new Ducks and their families to life at the University of Oregon, demonstrating the UO’s commitment to teaching, learning, and scholarship. Our mission is to enhance the new student experience by providing guidance and assistance to students making academic, personal, and social adjustments to college life. 

The Ambassador Program is the University of Oregon's primary student recruitment team. Ambassadors conduct tours and other recruitment activities for prospective University of Oregon students. Ambassadors are often the first contact prospective students and their families have with the UO.

Minimum Qualifications (include all required certifications or trainings):

  • Be an undergraduate student enrolled in a minimum of 8 academic credits each term
  • Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Speak to their experience in multiple areas of campus life at the University of Oregon
  • Abide by the terms and expectations outlined in the policies and procedures manual at all times
  • Respect confidentiality of student records in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and UO computing policies
  • Fulfill the mission of Student Orientation Programs

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to effectively present the positive attributes of the University of Oregon-Initiative, dependability, discipline, creativity, responsiveness, open-mindedness, and self-confidence

  • Efficient time-management skills
  • A broad base of campus knowledge and involvement with various campus services and resources

Essential Duties of the Position

  • 75% - Lead campus tours for visitors, new employees, alumni, etc.
  • 10% - Support event operational functions at large-scale recruitment events
  • 5% - Prepare materials for campus tours and recruitment events
  • 5% - Conduct digital outreach including virtual appointments, social media, and text campaigns
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned, including possible travel on behalf of the University of Oregon to off-site recruitment events across the country

While maintaining the same duties as general Student Ambassadors, Multicultural Recruiters (MCRs) specifically focus their recruitment efforts on students of color, particularly those who are first-generation college students and those from low-income backgrounds.

Scheduling

How often are schedules published? Schedules for required meetings are posted once/term. Students may set availability for remaining hours and will be assigned at least five days (to the hour) in advance.

When are schedules published? Shift schedules are published at least five days (to the hour) in advance, usually with more notice.

Scheduling Window (when students may be scheduled to work): All scheduled shifts will take place on Monday–Saturday, 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., unless otherwise approved by the Student Ambassador.

Required Shifts (if applicable): Mandatory work dates include February 20, March 6, 13, 20, half of Spring Break (March 21–28), April 3, 10, 17. Mandatory staff meetings will be held on Wednesdays during academic terms at 8:00 – 8:45 a.m. Additional mandatory work dates for Multicultural-Recruiter Ambassadors include January 31, February 5, 12, 19, 26, March 5, 14, April 11, 30, May 2, 7, 14, 21.

Other scheduling notes: Shift assignments will be based on the current, real-time availability employees identify in our scheduling platform. Student Ambassadors are required to work half of Spring Break.

Additional Position Information

Reappointment Process (if applicable): Students may have the option to extend the position through summer term, depending on available hours. All students without performance concerns can reapply for reappointment for the following academic year, based on departmental need.
