  • Expected hours each week/month:
    • 30–40 hours per week in late September.
    • 4–8 hours per week throughout the remainder of contract, but hours and shifts will vary seasonally based on recruitment event schedules, visitor demand/operational needs, and employee class schedule.
  • Hourly compensation: $17.18, or $18.04 for shifts requiring fluency in another language. Rates are subject to change.

Position Details

  • Program information:
    • Student Orientation Programs introduce new Ducks and their families to life at the University of Oregon, demonstrating the UO’s commitment to teaching, learning, and scholarship. Our mission is to enhance the new student experience by providing guidance and assistance to students making academic, personal, and social adjustments to college life.
    • The Ambassador Program is the University of Oregon’s primary student recruitment team. Ambassadors conduct tours and other recruitment activities for prospective University of Oregon students. Ambassadors are often the first contact prospective students and their families have with the UO.
  • Minimum qualifications:

    • Be an undergraduate student enrolled in a minimum of 8 academic credits each term
    • Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing
    • Speak to their experience in multiple areas of campus life at the University of Oregon
    • Abide by the terms and expectations outlined in the policies and procedures manual at all times
    • Respect confidentiality of student records in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and UO computing policies
    • Fulfill the mission of Student Orientation Programs

    Ambassadors receive ongoing training, including an annual written assessment and observations of tours with coaching on opportunities for development. Those who do not display satisfactory performance on up to three attempts of either assessment may be subject to termination.

Essential Duties of The Position

  • Duties:

    • 75% - Lead campus tours for visitors, new employees, alumni, etc.
    • 10% - Support event operational functions at large-scale recruitment events
    • 5% - Prepare materials for campus tours and recruitment events
    • 5% - Conduct digital outreach including virtual appointments, social media, and text campaigns
    • 5% - Other duties as assigned, including possible travel on behalf of the University of Oregon to off-site recruitment events across the country

    While maintaining the same duties as general Student Ambassadors, Multicultural Recruiters (MCRs) specifically focus their recruitment efforts on students of color, particularly those who are first- generation college students and those from low-income backgrounds

Scheduling

  • If “other”, please describe: Schedules for required meetings are posted once per term. Students may set availability for remaining hours and will be assigned at least 5 days (to the hour) in advance.
  • When are schedules published? Shift schedules are published at least 5 days (to the hour) in advance, usually with more notice.
  • Required shifts: Mandatory work dates include September 16-27, October 9, 16, 23, November 6, 13, February 19, March 5, 12, 19, April 2, 9, 16. Mandatory staff meetings will be held on Wednesdays during academic terms at 8:00 – 8:45 a.m. Additional mandatory work dates for MCRs are October 22, 29, 31, November 5, 12, 14, 19, 20, December 5, January 28, 30, February 4, 11, 25, March 4, April 22, 29, May 1, 6, 13, 20.

Additional Position Information

  • Reappointment process: Students may have the option to extend the position through summer term, depending on available hours. All students without performance concerns can reapply for reappointment for the following academic year, based on departmental need.
